David is a true living legend. But don’t let that intimidate you. He is incredibly warm, laid back and funny. You will immediately feel at ease in his company.

For those who can’t come to the entire workshop, David really encourages everyone to attend the Thursday evening lecture & discussion. David will be talking about his beginnings in yoga, meeting and studying under Pattabhi Jois, his travels and why after 20 years of not teaching publicly he has decided to teach the public again.

Thursday- 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm Individual class: $60 if attending Thursday’s class // $70 without Thursday attendance.
Discussion of how David thinks Ashtanga Yoga should be taught and practiced based on his 40 years of daily practice and teaching. This class is the foundation for all students, and particularly teachers, who want a greater depth of understanding of the “big picture” of the most beneficial way to practice and teach Ashtanga Yoga. 1st series practice led by David.

Friday- 5:30 pm- 8:00 pm Individual class: $60 if attending Thursday’s class // $70 without Thursday attendance.
Continuation of 1st series led by David with thorough explanations of every step.

Saturday- 10:00 am- 12:00 Individual class: $60 if attending Thursday’s class // $70 without Thursday attendance.
1st series led by David with less interruption by commentary.

Saturday- 4pm- 7:00 Individual class: $60 if attending Thursday’s class // $70 without Thursday attendance.
History of Yoga, description of the lineage of teachers of Ashtanga Yoga, David’s travels and adventures in Yoga, and his bringing Ashtanga Yoga to America and its eventual spread to the entire world. Introduction and practice of the Ashtanga yoga pranayama, as taught by Pattabhi Jois, led by David.

An introduction to 2nd series in a way that everyone at all levels can try and enjoy. 2nd session of the Ashtanga yoga pranayama led by David.

ABOUT BRYAN AND POWER YOGA. Bryan Kest has been practicing yoga for over 25 years and teaching for over 20 years. Bryan developed his unique, distinctive style of yoga - Original Power Yoga - in 1979. Over the years, his style of yoga - an amazing workout for the body, mind and spirit - has made him a well-known yoga teacher across the country and around the world. Bryan’s mainstream popularity is matched by an authentic foundation in the ancient practice of yoga and a long path of development as a yogi (practioner of yoga).

At age 15, Bryan uprooted from his native Detroit home to live in Hawaii with his father, a doctor, who understood the benefits of yoga. Like many of us, Bryan originally thought yoga was nothing more than strange contortions but that changed when Bryan’s father introduced him to a physical style of yoga called Ashtanga. Ashtanga immediately appealed to Bryan and soon he observed changes both physically and mentally. Yoga quickly became his passion - one that would take him to India for a year to study Ashtanga with Pattabhi Jois. Bryan founded four yoga studios in Southern California (Santa Monica and Calabasas). He also teaches yoga classes, workshops, and retreats around the world. LONG SLOW AND DEEP
In Bryan’s Long, Slow, Deep class we will move slowly, deeply and safely into deep stretching poses. Students who have taken Long, Slow, Deep often rave about how it makes them feel (great!) Long, Slow, Deep is a workshop special treat which Bryan does not usually offer. Long, Slow, Deep is a valuable balance to our usual Vinyasa Yoga Practice. Long, Slow, Deep may just be one of the most powerful classes we will take in our life! Bryan had a couple of objectives when he created Long, Slow, Deep. First of all, Bryan wanted to give students a deep and challenging alternative to the myriad of Vinyasa and flowing yoga classes. He wanted students to have a choice of yoga practices that may not involve Sun Salutations or Standing Series. Bryan wanted to offers students a practice that is utterly potent without focusing on strength, endurance or even building much heat. Secondly,Bryan wanted students to experience the benefits of holding poses a little longer, giving massive areas such as hamstrings, groin, hips, shoulders, etc., more time to release and go deeper into poses. This is truly an amazing routine!! It is by FAR the most difficult class Bryan teaches, yet we rarely leave the floor. The challenge of Long, Slow, Deep is mostly primarily mental but hang in there, be patient and keep breathing deeply and fluidly. This class is suited for students of all levels.

MASTER CLASS
Bryan Kest’s Power Yoga Master class is a well rounded, flowing asana practice integrating spiritual practice that enhance everyday living. The class is designed to invigorate the body and develop a calm, less reactive state of mind while practicing dynamic, flowing sequences. In Bryan’s Power Yoga Master Class students are encouraged to focus on the spiritual process and not the end result. This allows ALL levels of yoga practitioners to enjoy and benefit from the experience.
